Amsterdam police have picked out photographs of 45 people who are suspected of involvement in the football-related violence in Amsterdam 10 days ago, and trouble almost a week later in the west of Amsterdam.

Nine of them, all with Dutch nationality, are in custody, police chief Janny Knol told current affairs show Buitenhof on Sunday. Knol told broadcaster NOS later some of the suspects are Israeli.

The number of suspects is likely to rise as more of the footage is studied, she said. Around 100 police officers are working on the case.

The police are investigating all the crimes which took place around the Ajax Maccabi Tel Aviv match “no matter who the victim or the perpetrator was,” she said.

“What we saw happening was a combination of demonstrations, public order offences and ‘hit and run’ attacks, as well as enormous mobilisation online,” she said. “This was the first time we have been confronted with this phenomenon on such as scale.”

Three of the five men whose blurred photos were broadcast on a tv crime show have since come forward and more pictures will be released in the coming days, police said later in a statement.
