Thick fog has forced dozens of flights from regional Dutch airports to be cancelled or delayed, with the problems set to continue through Monday.

Eindhoven Airport had to cancel four flights and divert one to Rotterdam The Hague, Omroep Brabant reported.

Inbound flights were also delayed or rerouted, with Ryanair’s morning flight from Girona landing in Cologne at 9.45am. The first plane to land at the airport was the Ryanair service from Zagreb, which touched down 36 minutes late at 9.36am.

On Sunday at least 13 flights were cancelled or diverted to other airports such as Cologne, Rotterdam and Weeze, after thick fog reduced visibility to less than 200 metres.

Rotterdam The Hague Aiport was also forced to cancel flights to destinations including Alicante, Barcelona and Al Hoceima in Morocco on Monday morning.

Eindhoven is due to install new technology from 2027 that will allow aircraft to take off and land in low visibility, to address its frequent problems with fog.

Code yellow

The meteorological bureau KNMI has issued a code yellow warning for the provinces of Noord-Brabant, Zuid-Holland and Zeeland, where visibility is less than 50m in some places.

The fog is expected to clear in the morning except for parts of Zeeland, where it will linger into the early afternoon.
