Dutch tennis players reach Davis Cup final for first time.
The Netherlands has reached the final of the Davis Cup tennis competition for the first time, after beating Germany in Malaga, Spain on Friday evening.
Tallon Griekspoor put Oranje into the final by beating Jan-Lennard Struff in three sets: 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-4. Given that Botic van de Zandschulphad had beaten Daniel Altmaier 6-4, 6-7 (12), 6-3 earlier in the evening, the victory was sealed without the doubles match.
“It is not as if we have had 12 or 15 opportunities before,” said captain Paul Haarhuis after the event. “How long has the David Cup been around? Since 1900? Then it is about time.”
The Netherlands meets the winner of the other semi-final between Italy and Australia on Sunday.
