Ajax have lost their first game in this season’s Europa League competition, going down 2-0 away to Spanish side Real Sociedad.

The Amsterdammers failed to take advantage of several chances to score and are now in sixth place in the new look league competition with three games to go.

They next take on league leaders Lazio at home on December 12, a game that will be without away supporters following a city ban.

AZ, now 19th in the league, managed a 1-1 home draw against Turkish side Galatasaray, who are fifth. The Alkmaar side will next meet Bulgarian team Ludogorets on December 12.

There was more disappointment for FC Twente, who lost 1-0 at home to Union SG. Twente have just three points from five games and will take on Olympiacos in their next match.

The first eight teams in the league automatically qualify for the knockout rounds and the following 16 play each other for a place. The bottom eight are out of the competition.
