Two draws and one defeat for Dutch clubs in Europa League

There were mixed fortunes for Dutch clubs in Europe on Thursday night, with Ajax, FC Twente and AZ of Alkmaar all in action in the Europa League.

AZ lost 0-2 to Portuguese side Athletic Club and next meet Tottenham Hotspur on October 24. Match review and stats.

Twente looked like winning at home against Turkish side Fenerbahçe but a goal by former Ajax captain Dusan Tadic left the match in a 1-1 draw after the 71st minute. Match review and stats.

Twente meet Lazio in their third Europa League game on October 24.

Meanwhile Ajax drew 1-1 away against Czech league leaders Slavia Praha.

“I think it is a good point and overall, our performance showed big character and quality,” said Ajax coach Francesco Farioli after the game.We had opportunities to go home with three points, but given how the game went we need to be happy with the point.” Match review and stats.

Ajax next meet Azerbaijan side Qarabag on October 24.

There was crowd trouble in both Prague and Enschede, with riot police in both cities making arrests outside the grounds before and after the games.
