Two Polish migrant workers have been found dead at a hotel in Wassenaar in what police have described as suspicious circumstances.

Emergency services were called out to the former Hotel Wassenaar on Katwijkseweg at around 5.20am after receiving reports of an incident involving “dangerous substances”.

Police said they were considering all possible scenarios, including an accident, a deliberate killing or suicide. No further details, such as how or where the victims’ bodies were found, were disclosed.

“It could be a crime, but it could be that these people took the decision upon themselves,” a spokesman told Nu.nl.

Local media reported the victims were two Poles who worked for a Zoetemeer-based personnel agency, Lider Job.

Owner Benny van Wieringen said: “It’s true that they are two of our employees. I want to wait until I know about the circumstances in which they died before I say any more.”

Hotel Wassenaar closed to the public 11 years ago when its owners went bankrupt. Since then the 64-room hotel has been used to house migrant workers from central and eastern European countries.
