Dutch dj Martin Garrix has been named as the most popular in the world by Britain’s DJ Mag for the fifth time.

The presentation of the award was made by sixth-placed Armin van Buuren, whose record at the top Garrix has now equaled, during the Amsterdam Dance Event.

Garrix, who is 28, takes over from David Guetta, who won the title last year and is now in second place. Garrix topped the ranking in 2022, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

“I’m in the list with all my idols — I look up to Armin, I look up to Tiësto. To be in there with those guys is very surreal,” he told DJ Mag. “My number one  worry when I entered the list, and topped the list, was that it could only go downhill from here, so it’s very special we’re back at the number one spot.”

In total, seven of the top 20 DJs and duos in the ranking come from the Netherlands.

Garrix broke onto the scene in his mid-teens via his proto-EDM tune, ‘Animals’ and has since collaborated with artists such as Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Usher and U2.
