André Rieu’s team slams use of footage in pro-Trump video
A short clip featuring Dutch orchestra leader André Rieu and singer Emma Kok have been used without permission in a promotional video for Donald Trump and Rieu has described the move as “disgusting”.
The bombastic promo was placed on social media platform X by its owner and Trump supporter Elon Musk. It shows one second of footage featuring Rieu playing the violin and the 16-year-old singer in action, with a new soundtrack.
The film praises Trump as a super hero, a boxing legend and gladiator who will save America.
Rieu’s son and spokesman Pierre told the AD the film’s message is “disgusting”. “Texts such as ‘if you spill a drop of American blood we will spill a gallon of yours’ are horrible and violent,” he said.
“Luckily, that man (Musk) is very active on Twitter and it will sink down his timeline.” By Monday, Musk had placed 40 new posts after the weekend video.
Musk’s team had not sought any contact with Rieu’s team to use the video, but Pierre Rieu said his father would not be seeking rectification. “The less attention, the quicker it will be over,” he said.
