Rotterdam football club Feyenoord lost their first game in the new-look Champions League competition against German champions Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night by a disappointing 0-4.

“It is a downer, without doubt,” said coach Brian Priske after the game. “But that is football. If you fail you, have to make sure you get up again, work hard and do better next time.”

The home defeat was the second in a row for Dutch teams in the premier European competition. On Tuesday, PSV Eindhoven lost 3-1 away to Juventus.

Feyenoord take on Girona away next in the competition while PSV will meet Sporting Club de Portugal at home.

Ajax, AZ and Twente are all taking part in the Europa League competition, which kicks off next week.
