PSV got back to winning ways after their midweek mauling by Juventus as they overcame a tenacious Fortuna Sittard side to record a sixth straight league win.

Malik Tillman put the champions ahead after 15 minutes with a clinical finish. But Sittard dug in and drew level when Alen Halilovic’s floating corner was headed in by Ezequiel Bullaude.

Tillman restored the lead with a free-kick midway through the second half before Luuk de Jong tapped in a rebound after Ismail Saibiri had tested the goalkeeper.

AZ followed up their 9-1 win over Heerenveen with a narrower victory at PEC Zwolle to stay second. Ibrahim Sadiq scored at the start of each half, including a sublime chip over Jasper Schendelaar in the 51st minute.

Third-placed Utrecht edged past Willem II with the help of two own goals to record their best ever start to an Eredivisie season. Noah Ohio was the only Utrecht player to put the ball in the net when he score a penalty in the 37th minute, while both Willem II’s goals came from Cisse Sandra.

Northern derby

Groningen took an early lead in the northern derby at Heerenveen when Luciano Valente converted Thom van Bergen’s slide-rule pass in the ninth minute, but Jacob Trenskow equalised just three minutes later with a magnificent half-volley.

Groningen were reduced to 10 men with the dismissal of Marvin Peersman midway through the second half and Heerenveen took full advantage as Ion Nicolaescu bundled in a winner from close range.

Last season’s third-placed team FC Twente shrugged off their early season blues as two goals by Sem Steijn set them on their way to a 5-0 win over Almere, who are still searching for their first win of the season.

Feyenoord suffered an early setback against NAC when striker Santiago Giménez was taken off with a hamstring injury in the first half, but his replacement Ajase Ueda took just six minutes to give the Rotterdammers the lead with a bullet header.

Quinten Timber added a second from the penalty spot after Leo Greiml was penalised for handball.

RKC pointless

Davy Klaassen scored on his return to Ajax to rescue a point against Go Ahead Eagles, who went ahead in the 64th minute with a goal from Ajax academy product Enric Llansana.

Five minutes later Jordan Henderson’s free-kick found Klaassen standing unmarked in the penalty area to score with a glancing header.

Heracles picked up their first win of the season with two goals in the first 13 minutes against NEC, while RKC slumped to their sixth straight defeat at home to Sparta.
