The Netherlands’ second biggest trade union federation CNV is aiming for wage rises of between 3.5% and 6% in the coming pay negotiations round.

The union will also call for a two-hour shorter standard working week and for people to be given a permanent contract after 12 months on the job, chairman Piet Fortuin said on Friday.

The new pay demand is based on expected inflation figures and is “extremely reasonable”, Fortuin said. The actual demand will vary according to the economic conditions within each sector.

The FNV, the biggest trade union in the country, will also publish its new negotiating position before Tuesday’s budget presentation.
