Brexit impact still felt on Dutch exports, re-exports to Britain
Dutch exports to Britain are still lagging behind their pre-Brexit volumes, but this is largely due to the downturn in exports of goods produced elsewhere, according to new figures from national statistics agency CBS.
There has been a slight rise in the export of Dutch manufactured items, but that is below the increase recorded by other countries, the CBS said.
In 2020, the value of re-exports fell three percentage points below that of 2015, the year before the Brexit referendum, and the situation was unchanged in 2023.
The value of Dutch exports to Britain rose marginally in 2023 to €26 billion, but this was largely down to oil products. The sale of plants and flowers has increased by just €300 million since 2015 and that of vegetables is up by €100 million over the same period.
In July this year, Dutch exports as a whole were up 2.2% on a year ago, the CBS said.
