The meteorological autumn began on Sunday and the shift in the weather will be apparent this week, weather forecasters say.

On Monday it will still be warm, with temperatures around 20° but cloud will dominate and there could be some showers. The sun may break through in the south later in the day.

The rest of the week will be cooler with strong winds and showers and it will feel chilly for the time of year.

By the coming weekend, it will be no higher than 14° but there will be some sunny spells again, particularly on Sunday.

The KNMI weather bureau sees a similar picture, with a mix of sunshine and showers, well into October.
