Wage rises average 5.2% so far this year, outstripping inflation
Wages in the Netherlands rose by an average of 5.2% in the first seven months of this year, news website Nu.nl said on Wednesday, quoting unpublished figures from employers organisation AWVN.
The rise is down on the 7.1% registered in the same period last year but still well above the average, the AWVN figures show.
In July alone wages were up 5%. In total 25 pay deals were sealed last month, covering 80,000 workers, Nu.nl reported.
High inflation and the shortage of skilled workers continue to have an impact on salary levels a spokesman said. “Companies are doing all they can to keep hold of people,” he told Nu.nl. “And that includes good pay and conditions.”
The unemployment rate in the Netherlands is currently around 3.6% with job vacancies far outstripping the number of people looking for work.
Inflation rose slightly to 3.7% in July, driven by food prices and rental housing rent rises, the CBS confirmed this week.
