Dutch medal hopeful Sifan Hassan makes her first appearance on the track at the Paris Olympics on Friday, taking part in the first heat of the 5,000 metres, shortly after 6 pm.

Hassan has opted to run in three events this competition – the 5,000 and 10,000 metres and the marathon.

Meanwhile, swimmer Tes Schouten (23), taking part in her first Olympic final, picked up bronze in the 200 metres breaststroke on Thursday evening. “I was just happy I was able to enjoy these games,” she told broadcaster NOS.

The Netherlands is now in 10th place on the medals table with two gold, two silver and two bronze.

Dutch medal hopes on Friday are partially pinned on sailing team Odile van Aanholt and Annette Duetz who are currently lying second to the French duo in the 49erFX competition. The medal races were delayed yesterday because of the lack of wind in Marseille, where the sailing events are taking place.

At midday in the Roland Garros stadium, Demi Schuurs and Wesley Koolhof are playing the Canadian duo of Félix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriela Dabrowski for the bronze medal in the mixed doubles.

Both Dutch hockey teams are also in action in the afternoon, and both have already qualified for the knockout rounds.
