The temperature is set to hit 30° over much of the Netherlands on Monday, and could be as high as 34° in the south, weather forecasters said on Sunday afternoon.

The KNMI weather bureau has issued a code yellow weather warning for Zeeland, Noord-Brabant and Limburg from 1 pm on Monday, saying the heat combined with high humidity may cause problems for some people.

Monday night will also be warm, with the temperature unlikely to drop below 20° and Tuesday will also feel very warm with high humidity. There is a good chance of thunderstorms on Tuesday night.

The hot, humid weather is due to a southerly wind, bringing warm air north from the Mediterranean sea region, where it has reached 40° in places.

The temperature will drop on Wednesday, but may still remain very warm inland, and thunderstorms are still a possibility in many places.

The rest of the week will see a return to “normal” Dutch summer weather, with sunny spells, cloud and some rain.
