Amsterdam football club Ajax has reached an agreement with English side Burnley to buy striker Wout Weghorst, club sources have told broadcaster NOS.

Weghorst, with 39 caps for Oranje, is expected in Amsterdam later on Wednesday for medical checks and will sign the deal to mid-2026. The transfer summer is likely to be below €5 million, according to the Telegraaf.

Coach Francesco Farioli has two strikers in his squad – Chuba Akpom who scored a hattrick in the Europa League playoffs last week and Brian Brobbey, who still has fitness issues and has just turned down a move to Nottingham Forest.

Akpom has been told that he needs to find a new club, the Telegraaf said. The current transfer season ends on September 2.
