Ajax is one step closer to taking part in the coming season’s Europa League competition with a 1-3 win over FK Vojvodina. The Amsterdammers beat the Serbian side 1-0 at home last week.

Ajax will now meet Panathinaikos in the third qualification round, with the first leg taking place in Greece next Thursday.

Brian Brobbey and Steven Bergwijn were missing from the Ajax line-up because they are part of the Dutch squad at the Olympics, and coach Francesco Farioli kept Steven Berghuis out of the starting line-up because he is still recovering from injury.

Borna Sosa, Benjamin Tahirovic and Owen Wijndal did not travel to Serbia either. They are all looking for a new club and other players too could be sold.

Ajax needs cash to strengthen its line-up for the coming season, with Daniele Rugani, Wout Weghorst and Pablo Rosario all reportedly on the wish list.
