The Netherlands has ended its Olympic campaign with 34 medals, including 15 golds, finishing in sixth place in the table sandwiched between France and Britain.

The Dutch gold tally was boosted twice on Sunday, firstly by Sifan Hassan’s extraordinary win in the marathon, then followed by cyclist Harrie Lavreysen who won the keirin.

The keirin, a strategy sprint race, gave Lavreysen a hattrick –  the 27-year-old earlier won gold in the team and individual sprint events.

Sunday’s performances took the Dutch medal total to 15 gold, seven silver and 12 bronze.
