Swiftonomics come to Amsterdam: singer gives “€25 million boost”
The Amsterdam region is expecting an economic boost worth €25 million to €30 million thanks to Taylor Swift’s three concerts this week, reports the Parool.
Walther Ploos van Amstel, from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, has reckoned the gains of Swiftonomics at a huge figure for the region.
“A limited amount of this is revenue from tickets,” he reportedly said. “People have paid €125 or €150 on average and foreign fans spend another €250 for a hotel in Amsterdam, food and transport. For Dutch fans, you’re talking about alongside the entrance ticket transport costs and refreshments, which comes to tens of euros each.”
Economists at the Rabobank who have studied the impact of pop stars on the economy believe that there is definitely an impact on the hospitality industry. “But the question is whether this is a temporary price effect or delivers a sustained effect on volumes,” economist Hugo Erken said to het Parool.

Amsterdam municipality said earlier this week 55,000 fans were expected for concerts from July 4 to July 6, and it had measures in place to deal with crowds.
Swift’s three concerts at the Johan Cruijff Arena have already won five star reviews. The AD said her opening night on Thursday “was close to perfection”.
