Fire at Flevoland riding school kills 18 horses

In total 18 horses have died in a fire at a riding school in Zeewolde in Flevoland in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The fire broke out shortly after midnight and spread quickly. Fire services managed to save just two of the horses, a spokesman told broadcaster NOS.

The stable, which housed the horses of several owners in the area, burned tot he ground but an adjacent building and house could be kept safe from the blaze.

The fire may have started in the stable’s roof but its cause it still being investigated.
