Dutchmen stabbed in fight with Irish over noise in Portugal
Four Dutchmen have been stabbed in a fight over noise with a group of Irish holidaymakers in Portugal, one of whom has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, the Telegraaf reported on Tuesday.
The fight, in which one Irishman injured as well, took place in a three-star holiday apartment complex in the resort of Albufeira at around 4.30 am.
The Dutch injuries have been confirmed by the foreign affairs ministry which is lending consular assistance, the paper said.
According to the Irish Mirror newspaper, the Irish tourists objected to the noise from the flat below them where the Dutchmen were staying and went downstairs to confront them.
“A subsequent argument between the two groups allegedly ended with a fight in which both sides used knives as weapons,” the paper said.
“Two people including a Dutchman whose life is reportedly in danger were still in hospital on Monday night. Another three people were taken to Faro Hospital but have now been released.”
The paper said the injured holidaymakers are said to be aged between 17 and 21.
The police have now started an investigation and confiscated three knives. No one has yet been arrested.
