Coronavirus on the rise, be aware of consequences, says doctor
The number of people with coronavirus infections is rising, latest figures from public health institute RIVM show.
The number of people taken to hospital as a result of an infection has also risen slightly in the last two weeks, but is below the equivalent period last year.
According to the RIVM’s infection radar, which monitors incidences of flu and coronavirus, some 10% of people who have respiratory complaints are testing positive for coronavirus.
“The figures are not alarming in themselves but we would do well to realise that a cold may be coronavirus,” infectologist at the Radboud teaching hospital Chantal Rovers told the AD.
Rovers said people should remain aware that an infection can have serious consequences for people who have compromised immune systems.
“Coronavirus is still not the same as a common cold. It can lead to long-term problems,” she said. “So stay at home if you’re ill and work form home if you have symptoms.”
