There were bronze, silver and gold medals for the Dutch squad on the last day of the European athletics championships in Rome on Wednesday evening.

The women’s 4×400 relay team of Lieke Klaver, Cathelijn Peeters, Lisanne de Witte and Femke Bol successfully defended their European title, with Bol taking her second gold medal of the games.

In the men’s 4×100 relay, Elvis Afrifa, Taymir Burnet, Xavi Mo-Ajok and Nsikak Ekpo took silver behind Italy in a tight finish. The team has one more appearance in Geneva in the hope of qualifying for the Olympics, with the last two tickets being allocated on speed.

In the women’s 4×100, Nadine Visser, Marije van Hunenstijn, Minke Bisschops and Tasa Jiya took a surprise bronze.

The Netherlands finished the championships with three gold, four silver and five bronze medals, putting them in sixth place on the medals table.
