Boy, six, dies in hospital after three car smash in Gelderland
A six-year-old boy who was seriously injured in a three-car crash on Saturday has died of his injuries, police said on Monday.
In total eight people, including four children, were caught up in the crash on a regional road near Laag-Soeren in Gelderland. All the children, who were in two of the cars, were hospitalised.
Police arrested a 78-year-old woman who was alone in the third vehicle. She has since been released from custody after questioning.
“The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing,” police spokeswoman Linda Bouwman told the AD. “Unfortunately, we can give no further information at the moment. The results of the investigation will be handed over to the public prosecution department that will decide what happens next.”
The AD said the road where the accident happened is a notorious traffic black spot and that locals have been attempting to have safety improvements made for years.
