Offices in the Netherlands are becoming cheaper as working from home becomes increasingly entrenched, according to new figures from national statistics agency CBS.

The price of offices has fallen for four quarters in a row, and it is the first time since 2015 that the decline has continued for so long. In the first quarter of this year, prices were down 2% year on year.

Research published by the CBS in March showed that some 52% of the Dutch working population worked at home at least part of the time last year, the highest percentage in the EU.

Most of those who worked from home were based away from the office for up to 50% of their working week, the CBS said.

The increase in home working has led to a decline in demand for offices. In 2015, there were 97,500 office complexes in the Netherlands but that has now gone down to 94,000, despite the increase in the size of the service sector.
