New young millionaires mix old and new business ventures
New millionaires often earn their money in ventures based on artificial intelligence but also take on more conventional businesses, the Quote list of the Netherland’s 100 richest people under 40 shows.
At least seven of the 31 new arrivals in the rich list, such as 31-year-old Maarten Alblas, earned his €140 million fortune by using AI to support accountants, Quote said. The revenue from his company DataSnippers catapulted him into third place, the highest new entry in the young rich list.
Others use AI to support medical research, prevent forest fires or help growers maximise efficiency. Several self made millionaires aimed for more conventional ventures, such as chairs for seniors and advertising on paper cups.
In first place is Job van der Voort of HR platform Remote, who is worth €600 million, followed by Ruud Pierik of Elektramat, an electronic parts wholesaler, with €180 million.
The young millionaires own over €3 billion between them, some €5.4 billion less than last year.
That money has now been added to the regular 100 rich list as two of the biggest earners, Adriaan Mol of pay service Mollie and Robert Vis of communications firm Bird, have reached their 41st year.
The list also features several Dutch celebrities, DJs Martin Garrix (€50 million), Afrojack (€28 million) and model and influencer Doutzen Kroes (€28 million) among them.
The youngest millionaire is 28-year-old care entrepreneur Bibi Lemmers, who is one of just six women on the list.
