Amsterdam police have issued the photograph of a man they suspect of stabbing a British tourist in the city’s red light district in March.

The man was seriously injured in the incident.

Police say he and a woman were walking back to their hotel around 1.30 in the morning when they were approached by a dealer who asked them if they wanted to buy drugs.

The couple refused and in the altercation that followed, the dealer stabbed the tourist, who collapsed.

The woman tried to stop the suspect and chased after him before he disappeared. The man was taken to hospital where he underwent an operation.

Police say they have found no trace of the suspect and so took the option of publishing his photograph on Wednesday in an appeal for further information.
