This March was the warmest on record, no frost in De Bilt
This March was the warmest since records began in 1901 but it was also unusually gloomy, according to weather bureau KNMI.
The average temperature in March hit 9°, well above the average of 6.5° for the time of year. There was also no frost recorded at the De Bilt weather station near Utrecht, where official records are set. The last time that happened was in 1912.
March was also drier than average, with 39 millimetres of rain, compared with 53 millimetres in a normal year. Most rain fell in the south. There were also just 130 hours of sunshine in De Bilt, down from the average 145.
