MPs from far-right party Forum voor Democratie have been accused of breaching parliamentary rules by failing to register a company that they set up a year ago.

Leader Thierry Baudet, fellow MP Freek Jansen and senator Joris van den Oetelaar created Columbus Services in March 2023 indirectly, via three companies that they owned separately, according to an investigation by RTL Nieuws.

Last December Baudet, Jansen and FVD’s other MP Gideon van Meijeren were suspended for two days for failing to declare their external activities in the register of members’ interests.

Baudet was previously suspended in October 2022 for not declaring his directorship of Amsterdam Media Group, the company that publishes his books.

Jansen stepped down as an MP in January to make way for his former colleague Pepijn van Houwelingen, who lost his seat in November when the party dropped from five to three seats. The pair are expected to swap places again in July.

FVD has refused to co-operate with the rules on registering outside interests and donations, arguing that only voters should decide if a person is fit to sit in parliament.

Van den Oetelaar did declare his role in Columbus Services in the senate register, but under the name Columbus bv, RTL Nieuws reported.

The company was registered with the chamber of commerce under the names of Baudet’s company THPB, Jansen’s Dialectics Holding and JCM van den Oetelaar bv.

It is not clear what services the company carries out, with its statutes covering a range of activities including consultancy, establishing other companies, financial transactions, investing and patent trading.

In a statement to RTL Nieuws, a spokesman said: “Columbus Services BV states that it is accountable to its accountants and the Dutch tax administration and that its annual reports will be available through the chamber of commerce, as with any other company.”
