The Dutch are making fewer mobile phone calls than during the coronavirus pandemic, but are still calling more than in the pre-corona period, according to new figures from consumer authority ACM.

Last year the Dutch were on the phone for a total of 38.3 billion minutes, 11 billion down on 2021, when the pandemic was at its height. Before the virus hit the Netherlands’ mobile phone calls totalled an average of 33 billion minutes.

The number of calls made via fixed-link phones has fallen 75% since 2013, even though there are still 4.26 million connections.

The ACM research also shows around one-third of households now have a glass fibre connection for television, streaming and internet services.
