Ajax snatch draw to keep Europa League hopes alive
Ajax have maintained their fifth place in the Eredivisie and can still hope for a Europa League place next season after matching to snatch a 2-2 draw against Excelsior on Wednesday evening.
The Amsterdammers had seemed to be heading for defeat until Chuba Akpom equalised in the 88th minute, earning Ajax a much needed point.
Meanwhile, FC Twente eased to a 3-1 win over Almere City, confirming their third place in the Dutch top flight division and making a Champions League place more likely.
PSV Eindhoven hope to wrap up their first Eredivisie title since 2018 when they travel to Heerenveen on Thursday. Peter Bosz’s team have just lost once all season and have been champions in waiting since the 2-2 home draw with nearest rivals Feyenoord at the beginning of March.
The nine-point gap between the teams means Feyenoord will still have a mathematical chance of retaining their title if they beat Go Ahead Eagles in Deventer later on Thursday evening.
