Unilever to spin off ice cream unit, cut 7,500 jobs worldwide

Food to detergent’s group Unilever is cutting 7,500 jobs through a reorganisation and selling off its ice cream arm, which includes Ola, Herzog and Ben & Jerry’s.

Unilever currently has a global workforce of 127,000 and it is, as yet, unclear, if jobs in the Netherlands will be affected. The jobs to go will be “predominantly” office-based roles.

The company said in a press statement that the ice cream arm no longer fits in with company strategy to focus on “unmissably superior brands with strong positions in highly attractive categories”.

The ice cream unit has five of the world’s top 10 brands and booked sales of €7.9 billion in 2023.
