PSV stay 10 points clear after draw with Feyenoord, Twente win
An equaliser by Guus Til on his return from injury salvaged a point for PSV in the top-of-the-table clash against Feyenoord and maintained the Eindhoven club’s 10-point lead in the Eredivisie.
Til came off the bench in the 64th minute, shortly after Santiago Giménez had put Feyenoord ahead with his first goal in seven matches.
Seven minutes later Til collected a pass from Luuk de Jong and fired a diagonal ball past Timo Wellenreuther. PSV had a chance to win the match, but Malik Tillman fired over the crossbar with Johan Bakayoko standing free in front of goal.
Tillman had given PSV a fourth-minute lead when he nutmegged David Hancko before shooting into the top corner. Feyenoord equalised midway through the first half when Yakubah Minteh pounced on a stray pass by Olivier Boscagli.
Ajax ended Utrecht’s 15-match unbeaten run and moved within four points of fourth-placed AZ in the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Brian Brobbey collected a spooned pass from Borna Sosa and slipped the ball between Mattijs Branderhorst’s legs to open the scoring near the end of the first half. Brobbey then set up Kenneth Taylor for a second on 76 minutes, shortly before Ajax’s Devyne Rensch was sent off for stamping on Sam Lammers.
Twente Enschede strengthened their grip on third place, but had to work hard to break down 17th-placed Vitesse.
Ricky van Wolfswinkel pounced on a loose ball to give Twente the lead after four minutes, but Arnhem-born Robin Pröpper steered a cross into his own net for the equaliser just before half-time.
Anis Hadj-Moussa had a goal for Vitesse disallowed for offside early in the second half, before Joshua Brenet scored the winner for Twente 11 minutes from the end.
AZ slip
AZ had to settle for a point against Sparta despite a strong start which was rewarded when Yukinari Sugawara scored his first goal of the season with a low angled drive after 24 minutes. Sparta equalised through a firm header by Arno Verschueren in the 76th minute.
A goal by Jakob Breum, set up by his fellow Dane Søren Tengstedt, was enough to keep Go Ahead Eagles in fifth place at the expense of RKC, who have won just once in their last 12 league matches.
In the bottom half of the table, Almere City were pegged back to 2-2 by Heracles after taking a two-goal lead at half-time. Jizz Hornkamp scored a penalty to get Heracles back in the game and then set up Ajdin Hrustic for the equaliser after Thomas Robinet, scorer of the penalty that put Almere 2-0 up, was sent off.
Excelsior’s poor form continued as they went 4-0 down in the first half to Fortuna, for whom Kaj Sierhuis scored a hat-trick in 19 minutes, eventually losing 5-2.
Heerenveen moved into the top half of the table with a 2-0 win over PEC Zwolle, who have lost their last three matches, while cup finalists NEC kept up their good form in 2024 by scoring five against bottom side Volendam.
