Spring already? February 2024 will be the warmest on record
There may be several days to go, but February 2024 is already in the record books as the warmest on record, broadcaster NOS said on Sunday.
The average temperature at the Bilt weather station near Hilversum, where weather records are set, will be between 8.1° and 8.3° this month, NOS weather forecasters say, and that is twice the average temperature in a “normal” February.
The high temperatures are down to southwesterly winds which have brought warm air across the country – taking the temperature in the south of the country to 18° on February 15. There have also been very few frosts.
February has also been extremely wet and is likely to be the fourth or fifth wettest on record, NOS said.
The coming week is set to be a mixed bag of showers and sunshine, with the best of the weather on Tuesday. The temperature will be around 8-10° and the KNMI long-range forecast says there will be little change well into March.
