Former health minister Ernst Kuipers, who left his job unexpectedly in January, has taken up a position at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University.

Kuipers stepped down on January 10 amid great secrecy about his future plans. The university has now confirmed he will take on the job of deputy chairman of the research division from May 1.

Kuipers was a professor of gastroenterology at the Erasmus teaching hospital in Amsterdam until becoming chairman in 2013. In 2022 he left the university to become health ministry in Mark Rutte’s fourth cabinet on behalf of D66.
