Donor law champion Pia Dijkstra is new temporary health minister
Former D66 MP and television presenter Pia Dijkstra has been appointed minister for medical care pending agreement on a new coalition government.
Dijkstra, 69, succeeds Ernst Kuipers who left suddenly last month for another job abroad which has not yet been made public.
Connie Helder, who took over the helm at the ministry when Kuipers left, remains minister for long-term care and sport.
Dijkstra was an MP from 2010 to 2021and was the driving force behind legislation to change the way organ donors are registered into a “yes, unless” system. She was also behind ongoing efforts to make euthanasia available to people who feel they have lived a complete life.
