DJ Tiësto cancels Super Bowl performance over family emergency
Dutch superstar DJ Tiësto announced on social media on Thursday that he is pulling out of his Super Bowl performance in Las Vegas to fly home for a family emergency.
The 55-year-old did not give details about the situation but expressed regret at missing the American football game in Nevada on Sunday.
“It was a tough decision to miss the game, but family always comes first,” Tiësto, whose real name is Tijs Verwest, wrote.
Tiësto is married to model Annika Backes and the couple have two children.
The championship game is the most-watched television programme in the United States. R&B singer Usher will headline the halftime show.
Tiësto, who hails from Brabant, was tapped as the Super Bowl’s in-game DJ and would perform sets ahead of the start of the game and during breaks to warm up the crowd. He’s been replaced by American DJ Kaskade.
