Man dies in explosives accident on The Hague street

A 23-year-old man who was seriously injured in an explosion in The Hague on Wednesday night has died from his injuries, police said on social media.

The man, from Amsterdam, was found injured in the street shortly after a firework blast at a nearby property. Eyewitnesses told local broadcaster Omroep West that the man had lost his hand.

The victim was arrested in hospital on suspicion of being involved in the explosion. A second man, a 24-year-old from Amsterdam, has also been arrested in connection with the blast.

The police have appealed for more witnesses to come forward.

The number of explosions in the Netherlands has almost tripled in the last year, with more than 600 attacks against homes, business premises and vehicles, according to police figures.
