Yet another Dutch high street staple has gone bust. Sports Unlimited Retail, which owns the labels Perry Sport, Aktiesport and Sprinter, was declared bankrupt on Thursday and that means 50 shops may close and more than 1000 people could be out of a job.

The sportswear shops made a combined loss of almost €9 million in 2021, despite rebranding efforts.

Perry Sport and Aktiesport first went bankrupt in 2016 and some of the stores were taken over by British company JD Sports. The bankruptcy will have no impact on JD Sports’ operations in the Netherlands.

Several big high street chains have ceased trading this year, including BCC, Big Bazar and Scotch & Soda.
