Television presenter Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, who left broadcasting a year ago after facing accusations of bullying, has signed a contract to make programmes for commercial broadcaster RTL.
From spring 2024, he will present a current affairs programme “full of music”, RTL said in a press release. He will also work for streaming service Videoland.
“Matthijs is one of the most talented tv makers in the Netherlands and we are very pleased to welcome him,” said media director Peter van der Vorst. Van Nieuwkerk said in the statement that he had missed working.
Van Nieuwkerk left public broadcaster BNNVARA in November 2022, following revelations in the Volkskrant newspaper about his bullying behind the scenes.
The presenter was the face of prize winning show DWDD from its launch in 2005 to final show in 2020 and several other programmes.
Van Nieuwkerk said at the time he was withdrawing from the public eye to make sense of what had happened and that he hoped to back at some point.
