Gales, hail and cancelled flights: storm Pia set to hit NL
The Netherlands will be battered by winds of up to 90 kph in coastal regions on Thursday but the gales could be even stronger in the north west, weather bureau KNMI said.
The KNMI has issued a code yellow warning for the entire country as storm Pia moves in, bringing rain and possibly hail to the east of the country. The sun may, however, break through at times in the afternoon.
Airline KLM has cancelled over 200 flights to European destinations and the Schiphol airport authority says the flight schedule will be disrupted throughout the day because of the anticipated weather conditions.
Gales and showers will continue into the evening and it will remain windy with showers on Friday, the KNMI said.
The gales will be strong enough to bring down branches and cause damage to roofs and there may also be disruption to traffic, the KNMI said.
