This was a “political attack”, Baudet says of bottle incident
Far-right leader Thierry Baudet has said he will continue electioneering ahead of Wednesday’s vote, despite being hit over the head with a beer bottle during a café visit in Groningen on Monday.
“The most important thing is to show what we will not bend and that we will go on,” Baudet told reporters on Tuesday. “I see this as a political attack on Forum’s policies.”
A teenager, said to be 15, has been arrested for the attack, which was the second on Baudet in less than a month.
Politicians from across the political spectrum have been quick to condemn the incident, saying it is “totally unacceptable”.
Baudet has had extra security since the incident in Ghent, when he was hit over the head with an umbrella, and will meet experts on Tuesday afternoon to discuss any changes that need to be made.
FvD has also launched a crowdfunding campaign to pay for additional security for Baudet and other senior party members.
