A 41-year-old man has been arrested in Culemborg, south of Utrecht after several windows were smashed at the town mosque.

According to local broadcaster Omroep Gelderland, 10 windows were broken or damaged at the Imami Azam mosque, but this has not been confirmed by police. The damage was discovered on Sunday morning.

The mosque’s secretary Selcuk Demirci said security footage had been handed over to the police and that the suspect is known to them.

The Dutch mosque umbrella organisation Islamitische Stichting Nederland had warned mosque boards they should be extra alert because of the war between Israël and Hamas.

On Saturday night, red paint was daubed on several Amsterdam museums by a group calling itself Workers for Palestine.
