Chilly days ahead, with frosts at night and winter sunshine
The KNMI weather bureau issued a code yellow weather warning for the entire country on Thursday morning, saying drivers face both slippery conditions on some roads and mist in places.
The remains of overnight snow and sleet have frozen on roads in coastal areas and in the east, while continuing snow showers are also having an effect, the KNMI said. Both the mist and the ice will disappear as morning continues.
Thursday will remain chilly, however, with temperatures no higher than around 3° but it could remain below zero in areas where the mist has not yet dispersed. There will also be snow showers throughout the day, particularly in the east and northern coastal areas.
Friday and Saturday will be dry but cold, with sunny spells and temperatures just above freezing point during the day. Light frosts will continue at night. On Sunday the snow and sleet will be back but that will turn to rain by Monday, the KNMI said.
