Man jailed for two months for Anne Frank House projection
A 42-year-old Canadian Polish national has been jailed for two months for projecting an anti-Semitic slogan on the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam earlier this year.
The public prosecution department had called for a six month jail term and five year ban on visiting Amsterdam.
The projection of the text “Anne Frank invented the ballpoint pen” on the front of the building on Amsterdam’s Prinsengracht canal in February caused outrage in the Netherlands and abroad.
The text harks back to long debunked conspiracy theories based on pages covered with ball point pen writing, which were left in the diary by a researcher.
The court ruled that Wilson had been deliberate in his actions, describing the projection on the symbol of the Holocaust as shocking and discriminatory.
Wilson had been in custody in the Netherlands since his extradition from Germany in July and was released two weeks ago. He will not have to serve any additional jail time given the amount of time he was in pre trial detention.
