Man, 31, arrested after woman, 75, found dead in Brabant woods
A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 75-year-old woman whose body was found close to the entrance of a mental health clinic.
Police said the 31-year-old suspect had left the clinical facility in Halsteren, Noord-Brabant, just before the victim’s body was found in a woodland area on Tuesday evening.
The man was traced to the streets of Amsterdam, where he was detained on Saturday morning. He is not believed to have known the dead woman.
“We acted immediately and went to the clinic,” police spokesman Alwin Don told Omroep Brabant. “When we got there, the suspect had just left. He hadn’t been reported missing.”
Lars Walder, spokesman for the local mental health service GGZ Westelijk Noord-Brabant, would not say why the man was residing in the clinic because of privacy rules.
“We can’t give any specific details about the client,” he said. “Our staff are shocked, especially at the death of the 75-year-old woman. It’s a dreadful situation.”
