BBB hopeful quits over secret Nazi tweets during Covid
Aspiring BBB MP Jasper Rekers has withdrawn his candidacy following the revelation that he sent neo-nazi tweets to politicians during the Coronavirus crisis, broadcaster NOS reported on Wednesday.
Rekers, who has a business consultancy and teaches digital intelligence and business at the Saxion HBO college in Deventer, sent his tweets from an anonymous account.
“Child molester”, “pharma whore” and “from poof to Nazi bitch” were just some of the epithets he used for politicians. He also asked if Hugo de Jonge had “booked a one-way trip to Nuremberg” and called prime minister Mark Rutte an NSB’er or Dutch Nazi.
Rekers is in 13th place on the BBB electoral list in the upcoming election and will have to remain there because the deadline for making changes has passed.
“From what Jasper told us we understand that this was a dark period in his life,” the BBB said in a reaction but added that the fact that Rekers did not inform his party of the tweets “weighed heavily”. His decision not to take up his seat if elected was unavoidable, the party said.
