PSV and AZ keep up perfect start to season, FC Twente drop back
PSV and AZ both notched up comfortable away victories to keep up their 100% record in the Eredivisie after five matches.
PSV won by a four-goal margin for the third league match in a row at Almere City – having lost by the same scoreline to Arsenal in the Champions League in midweek.
Hirving Lozano was on the scoresheet for Peter Bosz’s side on his first start for PSV in four years, following his return from Napoli in the transfer window. Guus Til, Joey Veerman and Ricardo Pepi were the other scorers.
AZ bounced back from their midweek debacle in Bosnia to beat another promoted side, PEC Zwolle, by a 3-0 scoreline.
Mayckel Lahdo opened the scoring with a long-range grasscutter after 12 minutes, before a deflected shot by Myron van Brederode and Vangelis Pavlidis’s seventh goal of the season settled the contest.
Twente Enschede dropped points for the first time this season as a late volley by Filip Stefanovic earned RKC a 1-0 win. But Joseph Oosting’s side stay in third place because the abandonment of the klassieker in Amsterdam denied Feyenoord the chance to move ahead of them.
Sparta moved level on points with their Rotterdam rivals as Arno Verscheuren’s early strike condemned Vitesse to their fourth defeat in a row.
Heerenveen also lost for the fourth straight match, going down 3-1 at home to Rotterdam’s other team, Excelsior, who moved up to seventh.
Go Ahead Eagles inflicted Fortuna Sittard’s first defeat of the season in an entertaining match Deventer to leapfrog their opponents into sixth place. Oliver Evardsen rounded off a flowing move to open the scoring in the 37th minute, before late strikes by Sylla Sow and Philippe Rommens secured the points.
NEC beat Utrecht 3-0 in Nijmegen to deny Ron Jans a second win since taking over at the Galgenwaard, while Volendam came back from 2-0 down at home to Heracles to claim their first point of the campaign.
