Massive police operation in Rotterdam after hospital shooting
Rotterdam police now say three people have been injured in two separate shootings at the Erasmus Medisch Centrum and at a nearby home, and that both the house and a room at the hospital have been set on fire.
Police arrest teams entered the hospital en masse after a shooting in one of the university hospital’s classrooms and at a private home some 1.5 kilometres away.
As yet it is unclear who the victims are and the extent of their injuries. One eyewitness said a lecturer was one of the victims but this has not been confirmed.
One of the injured was found at the hospital and the two others at the nearby home.
The police have reportedly ordered everyone in the hospital’s offices to leave and wait outside for further instructions.
The shooter had a hand gun and may have escaped on a scooter, police said, adding that he could also still be on the hospital premises.
He is described as tall, with black hair and in his mid 20s, with a rucksack and wearing headphones.
The Telegraaf is reporting that a 32-year-old man has been arrested on the hospital helipad where air ambulances land and described the situation on the ground as chaotic.
